April Recap
Time for my April recap! The month started off a little slowly. We still had a few finishing touches that needed to be done on the apartment renovation and a lot of unpacking to do. It's almost finished now, except for the spare room full of miscellaneous boxes. What makes all the miscellaneous things so boring and difficult to unpack?! I'll admit, I've been procrastinating when it comes to the last few things. Other than the unpacking, I've really been enjoying our new home, it feels so cosy. I can't wait to share more of it with you soon. Other than unpacking though, there were a few other things about April that I want to share with you.
Travel
The highlight of the month has to be our trip to Iceland! This destination was definitely on my bucket list and I'm so grateful that I got to tick that one off. It's a beautiful country and visiting there really gave me a sense of how incredible Mother Nature is. I'll do a whole post on it very soon, but until then, I'll leave you with a few photos.
Netflix
I haven't actually been watching much TV this month, but when I have been watching I've been into documentaries and similar. This month's stand out was definitely Brene Brown's, The Call to Courage.
Brene Brown The Call to Courage
This new Netflix special was amazing! I haven't read any of Brene Brown's books yet, but I've heard so many great things. So when I saw this special on Netflix I decided to give it a watch. I'm so glad I did, she really is incredibly profound. I can't wait to read some of her books now and I've already been on YouTube to watch her Ted Talks.Whilst watching I found myself laughing out loud, I cried and it gave me goosebumps. So much of what she said about fear and courage really resonated with me. Especially when she spoke about how much of life we avoid because we're scared and how much are we missing out on whilst we are waiting for something to go wrong. I highly recommend everyone watch this documentary!! Go on, watch it :)
Courage
Speaking of courage. This year I've been working on not letting my fear get the better of me. Almost everything scares me and I've realised recently how much I would be missing out on if I didn't have amazing people around me, encouraging me to do things even if they are scary. Whether they be bigger things like swimming in 2-degree water in Iceland or smaller things like riding an electric scooter around the city. By the way, I've done both of those things in April.I also did something by myself and for myself. I got a new tattoo. I've been wanting this tattoo for so long now. These birds have had a special meaning for me for about 12 years now, but for some reason, it was never the right time, until now. I'm so happy with it.
Random Musings
I came across this Taoist story the other day. I've heard it before and found it quite powerful. But for whatever reason, when I heard it again recently I saw greater meaning in it. Especially with my goal of non-attachment this year. It goes a little something like this;
Once upon a time there was a farmer whose horse ran away. That evening the neighbors gathered to commiserate with him since this was such bad luck. "Maybe" said the farmer. The next day the horse returned, but brought with it six wild horses, and the neighbors came exclaiming at his good fortune. "Maybe" said the farmer. The following day, his son tried to saddle and ride one of the wild horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. Again the neighbors came to offer their sympathy for the misfortune. "Maybe" said the farmer. The day after that, conscription officers came to the village to seize young men for the army, but because of the broken leg the farmer’s son was rejected. The neighbors came in to say how fortunately everything had turned out. "Maybe" said the farmer.
