Höstlov - Reminiscing about Utö

It's Höstlov here in Sweden this week, which is the Autumn break for schools. Whilst most people I know are heading out of Stockholm to warmer destinations, I've really been enjoying Autumn here in town and it's had me reminiscing about what we were doing this time last year....

Höstlov 2015 - A peaceful getaway in nature

Höstlov on UtöHöstlov on UtöHöstlov on UtöDuring the week break from school we spent a few days exploring an island in the southern part of the Stockholm archipelago called Utö. It's nice and close to Stockholm, taking less than 2 hours.Once we arrived on the island, I felt instantly relaxed. The air was crisp, and clean and had that distinct Autumn smell. One of the things I love most about living in Stockholm is the seasons. Autumn has always been my favourite, there's just something so magical about it. I love the smell and the colours. Being able to run through the leaves (yes I still do this!). Filling my lungs full of crisp, fresh air and I love being able to rug up and feel cosy. Living in Sydney I didn't really get to experience Autumn like I did when I was growing up in Melbourne. So I love being able to enjoy it again. After a little walk from the ferry to our accommodation, we grabbed some bikes and set off exploring. It was so quiet and peaceful, I felt like we had the whole island to ourselves. I was able to let go of all sense of time and just enjoy being in the moment. We had nowhere specific to go and nothing that we needed to do, other than just wander. We went riding and walking and searching for squirrels. For me, it was the perfect way to enjoy an Autumn getaway.Höstlov on UtöHöstlov on UtöHöstlov on UtöHöstlov on UtöHöstlov on UtöHöstlov on UtöA relaxing Höstlov on UtöWe had a great couple of days just relaxing. We did nothing but wander, read, drink warm cups of tea and enjoy just being. I know that Utö is supposed to be a great summer destination, full of buzz and excitement. But I highly recommend visiting in the quieter times also :)Cheers, Jess
