A Little London Getaway

A few weeks ago Daniel and I had the opportunity to sneak away on a little London getaway. I've only been to London once, but Daniel has been a number of times and always loves it. A lot of people from Stockholm head away to warmer climates at this time of year, but we decided that London was where we wanted to go. I knew it would still be warmer than here in Sweden and I love to visit cities when it's not the middle of summer. So we swapped our snow boots and jackets for lighter options and jumped on a plane.

As you probably already know I love books! I love to read and I love to spend time in bookstores and libraries. The bookstores in Stockholm do have a reasonable range of fiction books available to buy in English. But I do find that most of the books I want to read aren't available. So wandering through the many bookstores I dragged Daniel through, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven!! So many books and all in English. Of course, I managed to pick up a couple of new books I'd been wanting to read for a while.

But then it was time to head home. This is probably the first time since moving to Sweden that I actually felt a tiny bit sad about heading back. Maybe it was the thought of the rest of the long Nordic winter or the fact that I'd just spent a week in an English-speaking country for the first time in over a year. But I really loved our little London getaway and I can't wait to head back for another visit again sometime soon. It kind of felt like going home, but with only a one hour flight! I hadn't realised how much of my Australian culture and childhood was so English. I had so many nostalgic moments during the week. It was actually really nice to reminisce about our childhoods a little.

But now I'm back in Stockholm, eagerly awaiting Spring and counting down the sleeps till our next visit home to Australia. Which, by the way, is only 13!

Stay tuned for that adventure. As well as other bits and pieces coming soon.

Cheers, Jess
